Alien Arena представляет собой 3D шутер от первого лица. Работает Alien Arena как в Windows, так и в Linux и FreeBSD.
Игра оформлена в стиле научной фантастики. Здесь сражаются между собой кибер-существа, состоящие из живого мозга, помещённого в механический скелет. В целом игра выглядит довольно забавно.
Игра основана на игровом движке от Quake, как следствие - в игре работают те же приёмы распрыжки, что и в Quake2. В дополнение к манёврам Quake2 добавился также приём уклонения.
Как и аналогичные игры (Quake, OpenArena...), Alien Arena поддерживает несколько режимов игры, включая уникальные, присущие только этой игре:
- Deathmatch (DM) - каждый за себя;
- Team Deathmatch (TDM) - команды соревнуются по числу фрагов;
- Instagib - в игре есть только оружие "дисраптор" (disruptor), цель игры - завалить им как можно больше врагов;
- All Out Assault (AOA) - аналог DM/TDM, но есть возможность пилотировать космические корабли, расположенные на карте;
- Capture The Flag (CTF) - команды воруют друг у друга флажки и уносят к себе на базу, зарабатывая очки;
- DeathBall (DB) - аналог DM/TDM, но с задачей забрасывания шара в цель;
- Cattle Prod (CP) - надо завести механических коров, сваренных из обрезков труб с биологической головой, на базу;
- Team Core Assault (TCA) - необходимо захватить контрольные точки противника, а затем атаковать особое строение (spider node) на базе противника.
Поскольку игра бесплатна и доступна для свободного скачивания, она является отличным выбором для любителей 3D-шутеров. Особого внимания также заслуживают необычные режимы игры, которые наверняка позабавят Вас.
