Возможности Inkscape включают как работу с векторными объектами, так и работу с растром: есть функция векторизации растровых изображений, а также есть возможность поместить растровую картинку в векторный рисунок.
Инкскейп поддерживает работу со специальным аппаратным обеспечением: при рисовании с использованием графического планшета будут учитываться сила нажатия пера и его наклон.
Графический формат SVG, используемый в Inkscape, основан на языке XML, благодаря чему стандартные SVG примитивы могут быть расширены различными плагинами. Редактор Inkscape размещает такую дополнительную информацию в SVG файлах.
Графический интерфейс Inkscape переведён на много языков, в том числе и на русский.
