Игра Freeciv - бесплатная пошаговая стратегия. Каждый участник игры выступает в роли лидера своей цивилизации. Задача игры - создать и развить свою цивилизацию, чтобы она стала преобладать в мире.

Freeciv - бесплатный аналог игры Civilization (в основном, Civilization I и II), которая пользовалась бешеной популярностью в девяностые годы XX века. Благодаря специальным модам Freeciv может поддерживать те же правила, что и в Civilization, поэтому поклонники Civilization смогут легко освоиться в Freeciv.

В игре могут участвовать до 30 игроков. Можно играть как против людей, так и против компьютера.
При игре против компьютера можно выбрать уровень искусственного интеллекта соперника-компьютера.
Возможна игра через локальную сеть, а также через Интернет.
Freeciv работает на большом числе операционных систем (Windows, Linix, Mac).
В наличии есть большое число карт и сценариев.
В игре есть более 50 типов юнитов от древних повозок до вертолётов и управляемых ракет.
Freeciv переведена на много языков, поддерживается также и русский язык.
