Hillary Rodham Clinton: It is a excitement. thank you for coming to talk with me.

NDTV: It's been only a year since that election defeat and your book, "what went down, Writing it necessitie been cathartic, in this way, But responses to it have been interesting as you would expect. Hillary Rodham Clinton: zero, i do not. what i'm saying is, I beat him by four million votes so I don't believe that criticism from former political opponents. I try to be candid and open in the book by I did wrong, What liability I feel about it, But it was also important to talk about all these factors that were happening meanwhile. Hillary Rodham Clinton: Well I think gender in our political system will not the motivator that race was, for example, In president Obama's elections. I won the vote of a lot of women but not of white women and part of that is their party affiliation, mostly Republican, Although I got more white women to vote for me than president obama did in 2012. So it's a very dreadful situation but I would say this: You have a parliamentary system and I write in the book that I do still find it somewhat easier for a woman to rise in a parliamentary system. go through the women who broke through: Indira Gandhi, maggie Thatcher, Angela Merkel. a large number of women who become head of government come out of a parliamentary system. our system, You have body as head of state, Head of government and you don't have the strong party basis that helps to select candidates to run for constituencies across the country. So you want start from the very bottom, No matter who you really are, array of your record has been. You start and you have to raise the money yourself, you need run the gauntlet of a very tough political system. I really was honoured to be the first woman nominated by one of our two major parties, But I think that it is harder for a woman to rise in that system compared to a parliamentary system.

NDTV: But wheat berry,what is in a common, i presume, For women politicians internationally, We saw what chief executive Trump tweeted, The meme of you getting hit by a golf ball and actually falling down. That in a way is almost like a physical assault being tweeted by the President. You've developed in your book about the second debate just a few days after that sexual assault came out, On the feelings you had almost invaded and how part of you wanted to say "online backup, get off me, however, you didn't. Why does a woman allowed as powerful as yours feel the need to suppress that?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: It's a decent question and it's one I've thought a lot about, Because I think that now you're a woman in a very high political position, You know things that you have learned over your life. You know that anger coming from a woman is not accepted as much as anger from the man. A man can rant and rail and wave his arms and carry on and it's somehow viewed as favorable. The margins females are much narrower. So I try to pull the curtain back and invite the reader into giving thought to that with me. seriously believed, And a lot of women I know in public life have lived this, Where you master how you feel, You become calm and composed because toddler give any basis for the kind of sexist attacks that will come; "outraged" or just "feeble" Or whatever it could be. But when you approach it, It is not merely about women in politics, It's women in corporate, In media you're confident, You've been a specialist. And I was trying to argue you might want to accept the double standard, It is, And overcome it by maintaining women and fighting back. I happened to run against an incredibly, Overtly sexist candidate. Trump delighted in insulting women, In trying to dominate women. factor he said, Starting in the primary with the Republicans going into the reccommended election. And I made a very conscious decision to try and observe after my composure, to keep up my maturity, if you will, Because I thought at the end of the day more people would vote for that than would vote for the kind of volatile behaviour. becoming, in most cases, the best way to did vote it, If I'd been running somewhere else in the world I would have won. But it just showed you how difficult it was to try and stay within the arena as you are getting attacked and it doesn't stop. You referenced his recent retweet of a meme showing a golf ball hitting me in the back and all the. i'm talking about, Why is this going on? Why does someone who's in the strongest position in the world still feel so insecure that he does that? And that must be frightened me about his candidacy, that must be I tried to warn about. That he was temperamentally not equipped to be ceo, He didn't have the event, He didn't have the geting a grasp on to be President.

NDTV: one other aspect which I think India and the US perhaps have in common, In India a big focus of political discussion is about dynasty politics and in America, It's been sometimes called the Bush Clinton era, The fact that perhaps it could've been a Bush vs Clinton race within the last election before Donald Trump and the fact that critics would say this is too much about the House of Clinton, Perhaps we shouldn't have had another Clinton in the race this occassion. Now perhaps Chelsea may be the next Clinton to run for office. do you consider dynasty is an issue that people have criticised you about, Do you take that criticism simply?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: I really don't and my daughter has basically no interest that she's ever expressed about running for office herself. rest assured anyone can get in and run, I mean that's both the opportunity and the downside about being in politics in the states: We don't have parties like you accomplish that are much more controlling about who runs and how they are supported or not. So in our system, anyone can run for President. you possessed 16 people on the Republican side, under,a number of had famous names, a variety of them had come from nowhere. Whatever the mixture might be. On our side we started off with five candidates, Then we went to two and then I very conclusively won. the answer is don't vote for somebody. If you're worried about that don't vote but I was a revolutionary candidate as the first woman with a serious chance to be elected President and I brought my whole knowledge about me, My own plan in the Senate, My own service appointed by barack obama in the Secretary of State office, My long resolve forpersistance to women's rights and all that I've done. So if regular people liked that, they'll vote for it. If they did not, They could not; But I would've thought that my experience including my years as first lady with my husband's presidency would be a big advantage. And it could have been; Had I been elected I may been ready and able to start moving quickly.

NDTV: if truth be told, President Obama said in that speech you can be the best qualified to be President of all of them. I remember your husband standing up and clapping when he said that

Hillary Rodham Clinton: of he did!

NDTV: It was participating also, your own book, When you wrote about the sort of reactions you faced, Polarising in a few sense. Where people said your marriage was an design, You talked about how difficult it was to have your worst moments in the public and again President Trump in that second debate actually had women who had made allegations against your husband out there in the listeners. I was the aspirant, My name was on the ballot and it's a primary reason I take losing so personally, Because I think I will be a good President and I regret that there were lots of forces in this perfect storm that prevented that from happening.

NDTV: What's interesting with President Trump is that many have accused him of running it as a family business and there has been all this. believe it or not, Ivanka Trump just met our Foreign Affairs Minister a few days ago at the UN and she's coming to India on the invitation of the government as a representative. We've also got that whole issue of when Ivanka Trump sat in on a meeting of G20 leaders and when there was clearly criticism President Trump said, "Well if Hillary had done this with Chelsea no one could possibly have complained, So he tends to bring this out when issues come up about his family's involvement, Jared Kushner and more, He always tries to draw a parallel. How on earth do you react?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Well in my opionion basis for it. I know he does it, He does it consistently, He seems to be spending more time thinking about me and my family than taking into consideration the work he should be doing as our President. But that may well never happened. Neither I nor my husband would have ever thought about bypassing officials with deep experience for our child. the fact is that, I think life-style telling to hear that from Trump. In part because he has not staffed the us govenment. countless positions are unfilled, this type of expertise are ignored. it's true, He relies on a small circle of people who do not have the collective experience of professionals both in the government and elsewhere so it's an absurd claim and I think it goes to how insulated he is and how he doesn't trust anybody except a couple of people who happen to be related to him.

NDTV: It's interesting this whole target the first daughter because of course we've had great first ladies: a person, needless to say, Michelle Obama and now Melania Trump seems in a sense to not have found her niche or her voice at all, happen to be, in a White House. Any advice on her behalf? Or do you have any applying for grants how Melania Trump is doing?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: I think it's up to each woman who finds herself in that position to decide discover the role.

NDTV: Just shifting focus to the actual India Pakistan question as well, in addition to that's of huge interest to us, going as Secretary of State when you famously said, "Well Pakistan can't have snakes in its own backyard and think likely only going to bite its neighbours" but perhaps we've seen the truth of that. But in a sense, Many in India appear that President Trump has gone further by calling out Pakistan recently about being a safe haven for terrorists or in his Afghanistan policy, Dehyphenating India and Pakistan in this way. Do you think the Trump administration has actually done more against Pakistan based terror than the obama administration did?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Oh i don't know how you can say that. Certainly in the beginning, They haven't really done anything except say everything except food and make up policy to send more American troops to Afghanistan with no strategy. So I think that we were precise when I was Secretary of State, As you well realize, communicating out against Pakistan, moving in and killing Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan, Making it clear that have been too many safe havens for terrorists across the border. I mean I had many stand offs with the Pakistani state over their behaviour. So on the phone to count on what Trump says, you will have to see what he does and right now he's not doing anything. He's talking a lot about all kinds of problems without any real back up or deep know-how about the complexity of what it is he's talking about. His UN conversation, i thought, Was treacherous, schokohrrutige, Divisive it was not worthy of a President of u. s, It's as though he's almost buying nuclear crisis in two different places, On two different locations with North Korea and Iran. It's confusing what he is really believing in and trying to do because he is often contradictory and even incoherent. So I think India should count on a strong relationship with the particular that predates him and hopefully will postdate him where we continue to deepen and strengthen our ties, national to governing administration, People to be able to, Industry to industry and know that us supports the world's biggest democracy and I think that that has to be the constant in the relationship, irrespective of who's in the oval office.

NDTV: in fact, strangely, In the Indian American marketplace, Such a vibrant one that ensures a lot to the US economy, But this whole standoff that there were about H1B visas, and so on. And then candidate Donald Trump talked a lot about this issue of the worry and the fear of all jobs going to India and China. How justified that was today and do you think his whole America First policy has actually lived up to objectives ever since?

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Well again it's too quickly to tell. He's banned Muslims from six places, Ignoring countries that have actually attacked us or supplied fighters to attack us, He has talked a lot about immigration and he's made it clear that he wants to limit immigration of all kinds yet he also seeks visas for people to come work at Mar a Lago, His home in the southeast. So who can make sense of this and I think that everybody understands that given the campaign that he ran, There had to be some adjustments made to the immigration policy. It is my strong hope that it is not done in a fashion that shuts the door on talent that prevents us from getting the best of people, Professionals and workers of all types coming to our country. immigration law has been good for America. Immigrants give much more money to our government than they take at all, It's a very clear balance to be replaced by immigration. So if you glance at the facts, exactly how he acts and behaves has no basis, But he didn't win according to facts. He won on stoking frustration and fear, leading fingers, Scapegoating females. So I'm hoping that cooler heads prevail and people will get back to expertise, yes indeed, You've got to do everything you can to promote jobs and raise incomes here at home but immigrants actually contribute to that. Immigrants start more jobs than indigenous peoples, End up employing many so let's get back to looking at the evidence not just the rhetoric.

NDTV: You talked about evidence ultimately after the election campaign and after the result, More evidence seems to be coming out of possible Russian collusion in so what happened in this election. There's an FBI committee looking into it but in an interview with NPR recently you said that you'd even consider challenging the result if more concrete evidence emerges. Is that something you mean seriously? Is that something which goes with the kind of tradition we've had in democracies of moving on in a sense or just accepting the result? Would it be near on impossible to democracy if you challenged the result.
