Tor - система анонимизации, основанная на "луковой" маршрутизации. Суть системы заключается в том, что сетевые соединения с клиентского компьютера многократно шифруются и передаются по цепочке так называемых "луковых маршрутизаторов", благодаря чему становится очень трудно отследить местонахождение клиентского компьютера.
Работа системы аналогична использованию цепочки прокси серверов. Большое преимущество Тора - то, что прокси-цепочки строятся динамически.
Однако, хотя луковая маршрутизация и увеличивает анонимность клиента, следует учитывать, что, как правило, шифрование трафика на входе и выходе сети Тор отсутствует. То есть, подключение к конечному серверу будет не зашифровано и узел сети Tor, который непосредственно осуществляет подключение к серверу, имеет возможность перехватить весь трафик (например, если HTTP-сессия не зашифрована с использованием HTTPS).
Tor очень легко настроить: достаточно запустить программу установки, которая запускает локальный прокси-сервер и добавляет плагин в браузер, благодаря чему включение работы через Tor происходит нажатием одной кнопки. Для установки программного обеспечения даже не нужно обладать правами администратора.
В процессе работы с сетью Tor в любой момент можно "сменить идентификацию", то есть, установить новый канал связи, после чего все подключения к Интернет-серверам будут делаться уже с другого адреса.
Тор может работать на вашем компьютере как исключительно в режиме клиента, так и в режиме ретранслятора, являясь одним из узлов Tor-сети. Подробные настройки режима ретрансляции доступны через панель управления.
