TrueCrypt - бесплатная программа, позволяющая создавать зашифрованные виртуальные диски, доступ к данным на которых можно получить только при наличии пароля или ключевого файла.
TrueCrypt может зашифровать существующий раздел жёсткого диска (как системный, так и не системный), а может и создать виртуальный диск в файле уже существующей файловой системы. В любом случае, раздел диска или файл, в котором размещён шифрованный диск, внешне будет представлять собой лишь случайный набор байтов, который можно расшифровать лишь зная пароль.
Зашифрованный диск "монтируется" в системе, в результате чего зашифрованный носитель становится доступен, как и любой другой носитель в системе, под некоторой буквой, выбранной Вами (например, Z:\). После монтирования можно работать с шифрованным носителем, копируя на него файлы, и так далее.
Замечательной возможностью TrueCrypt является создание скрытого зашифрованного диска. Это достигается путём размещения шифрованных данных на области файловой системы диска, не занятой никакими другими данными. При этом даже сам факт наличия скрытого диска невозможно установить, не зная правильного пароля. В случае скрытого диска TrueCrypt создаёт также "внешний" шифрованный носитель, защищённый другим паролем. Этот внешний носитель служит "обманкой", куда можно положить файлы, выглядящие как секретные, но на самом деле не несущие никакой ценности. В случае, если злоумышленник добрался до компьютера и обнаружил такой зашифрованный файл, он может попытаться расшифровать его, при этом даже не догадываясь о наличии в системе скрытого раздела с настоящими секретными данными.
Такая организация даёт возможность в случае крайней необходимости сообщить пароль (под пытками, например :) ) от файла-обманки, тем самым не выдав главного секрета на скрытом носителе.
