PDFCreator — замечательная утилита, создающая в системе виртуальный принтер. Распечатывая из любой программы документ на таком принтере вы, на самом деле, выводите документ не на настоящий бумажный принтер, а сохраняете результат распечатки в файл. Но возможности PDFCreator не ограничиваются этим.
Случалось ли вам работать с программой, которая умеет выводить документ на печать, но не умеет экспортировать этот документ в виде файла, например, картинки? PDFCreator предоставляет универсальную возможность обработки и сохранения таких распечаток в файлы.
Как следует из названия, PDFCreator умеет создавать PDF файлы из того, что отправлено из программы на печать, вместо распечатки на "бумажном" принтере. Однако, вывод может осуществляться в любой формат: PDF, JPEG, PNG, SVG и другие.
При распечатке документа на "принтере" PDFCreator, открывается запрос с подтверждением действия. Можно отменить "печать", а можно сохранить результат в файл, настроив нужный формат. Можно упростить этот процесс, настроив автосохранение. Тогда при "печати" на PDFCreator-e автоматически будет происходить сохранение файла в выбранном формате в указанное место на диске. Можно указать шаблон, по которому будут задаваться имена файлов, создаваемых при этом.
Что очень удобно, можно отметить галочку "печатать после сохранения", чтобы вывести-таки печатаемый документ на настоящий бумажный принтер (принтер можно выбрать из списка установленных). В результате получится, что распечатанные документы остались в файлах на диске и появились в виде твердых копий из настоящего принтера.
Для организаций, возможно, пригодится ещё одна возможность PDFCreator: он может быть установлен в "сетевом" режиме, так что принтер PDFCreator станет виден в сети со всемы вытекающими последствиями. В этом случае можно одновременно с распечаткой документов на принтере с любого компьютера сети сохранять документы в виде файлов.
