OpenArena это 3D-шутер от первого лица. На первый взгляд это практически точная копия Quake 3 Arena, но бесплатная и распространяющаяся под лицензией GPL.
Поддерживается несколько типов игры:
- Deathmatch (то же, что и Free For All, FFA и DM) - каждый сам за себя. Чем больше врагов перебил, тем больше очков заработал.
- Tournament - дуэль.
- Team Deathmatch (TDM) - команды сражаются между собой, очки начисляются за побитие вражеского игрока.
- Capture The Flag (CTF) - команды воруют друг у друга флажки. Забежав на базу противника, надо унести его флаг себе на базу. За это начисляется очко.
- One Flag Capture - команды пытаются унести один-единственный флаг на вражескую базу
- Overload - команды пытаются разрушить обелиск, находящийся на базе противника
- Harvester - при смерти любого игрока, в центре карты появляется черепок цвета команды убитого. Собирая эти черепа и добегая до обелиска соперника, игроки зарабатывают очки своей команде.
- Elimination - команды пытаются перебить всех игроков противника, обходясь только тем, что даётся в начале игры. Собирать оружие и боеприпасы нельзя, их нет на карте.
- CTF Elimination - комбинация CTF и Elimination
- Last Man Standing - каждый игрок воюет за себя, но аммуниция и оружие даётся один раз, как в Elimination. Выигрывает тот, кто перебил всех.
- Domination - каждая команда пытается захватить и удерживать контрольные точки. Чем дольше удерживается точка, тем больше очков набирает команда.
- Double Domination - каждая команда должна захватить и удерживать одновременно две контрольные точки в течение 10 секунд, чтобы получить очко.
