Программа хранит пароли в базе данных, представляющей собой один файл. Доступ к базе можно сконфигурировать, задав способ шифрования: пароль, файл с ключом или использовать плагин для проверки доступа. Эти способы можно комбинировать.
Пароли шифруются не только при хранении в файле, но и в памяти. Загрузив базу данных в память, KeePass не оставляет пароли открытыми, а шифрует их, чтобы вредоносные программы, имеющие доступ к адресному пространству ваших процессов, не заполучили ваши пароли.
KeePass, являясь продуктом с открытым исходным кодом, расширяется многочисленными плагинами.
